😖 They were fussing, faffing, asking irelevant 😖 They were fussing, faffing, asking irelevant questions that made them sound like they didn't know their stuff, being condescending to suppliers, and high maintenance to deal with if you got stuck working with them...

... And I thought to myself, if THEY can get clients and work for themselves, surely to god I can, too?!

These were some of my first impressions of freelancers or consultants or contractors in the sales and marketing arena, based on first-hand experience 16 years ago, when I was thinking of shaking off my corporate shackles and going it alone.

⛰ Sometimes people are worried about working with freelancers like me, because they expect it to be like climbing Mount Everest just to get started. Here's what I tell them...

Naturally, it's my aim to craft those words of your dreams that you're unable to concoct in-house. But, it's also my absolute intention to be the lowest maintenance freelancer you've ever come across.

Why so?

🚢 Because I assume you've already got enough on your plate. That's why you're coming to me for help. The least I can do is make the experience smooth sailing for you.

You see, I've been doing this sort of thing for many a long year. So, I usually know what you want and need better than you do yourself.

🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ Onboarding is a stress-free walk in the park, when I'll make valuable suggestions based on my vast sales and marketing experience.

🎹 I'm not a mind reader. So, I'll ask any questions I need to get my head around early doors. Then, you're done. It's over to me to put fingers to keyboard.

In a nutshell, it's my goal to deliver -

✍ Phenomenal content and copy
🙌 To brief
⏳ On time
☺ Hassle-free

But, what about any snagging or issues?

They happen occasionally. But, they rarely involve the end of the world. So, if you have a problem with a job, just say so. I’ll do everything within my power to fix anything that’s broken within 24 hours.

🎉 Boom!

Let's start a conversation in the comments below. 👇 What misconceptions can prevent your prospects converting to clients?
🛑 Many laborers who produce the world’s most 🛑 Many laborers who produce the world’s most lucrative - and needed - products llike coffee, clothing, chocolate are collecting painfully low wages. 🛑

It can be tough to get as proactive as we'd like when we're in our own quagmire, with any sense of fairness temporarily submerged due to an erroneous political climate.

But, fairness is a pillar I do business by and live my life by. So, I'll continue to bang my drum whenever and where ever I see or learn about inequity, at home or abroad.

The objective of Fair Trade is to level up the playing field.

Let's observe Fair Trade Day by -
🤳 Spreading awareness on social media
💸 Donating to the World Fair Trade Organization
☕ Committing to only purchasing products that are fair trade certified

When workers are paid fairly, they can lead better lives. Let's not take everyday products for granted.
🧼 National Clean Your Room Day may have been fo 🧼 National Clean Your Room Day may have been founded to remind us to clean our bedrooms. But I want to use this holiday to share some tips on getting your website cleaned up -

🌪 Get your messages bang up to date - Did your business pivot, twist and turn during lockdowns? If so, have your brought your website uo to date to reflect those changes?

🚀 Make your way up the search engine rankings - Don't settle for languishing in an uncharted dusty corner of the interweb. Some lush SEO on-page work and blog posts will soon have you skyrocketing.

🙌 Check your text is client-centric - How does your website fare in the Us:You test. They aren't interested in it being all about you, just what's in it for them.

🍻 Use clear, jargon-free language - Overblown, complex, long and blocky text is a surefire turn off. Think about how you'd describe your business, products and services to somebody you've just met in the pub.

Mop, bucket, duster and rubber gloves at the ready and awaiting orders,

Your friendly ✍ content and copywriter ✍ xx
🤔 One of my clients asked me how to promote her 🤔 One of my clients asked me how to promote her mindset development webinars and services without being too salesly. It's an eternal question, isn't it, that elusive state of sales without selling?

She's amazing at what she does. But she's never had to face sales head-on during her public sector career.

I encouraged her to reframe her messages to sell the benefits rather than focusing on the features.

I also suggested a bolder, more compelling tone of voice, without being too ra-ra and against her personal style.

The social media and website words I crafted took her out of her comfort zone. But they weren't too in your face, clickbaity or salesly, which she'd have hated and been unsatisfied with what she was paying me to do.

🆙 At the end of the week, she reported back a 154% increase on the level of uptake she was used to getting from the same number of comms across a similar timescale.

Remember to believe in the system and take one step at at time.

And always listen to Judith. 😉
🙈 It always seems to be easier to celebrate som 🙈 It always seems to be easier to celebrate someone else's achievements than to brag about our own successes, doesn't it?

But it's very important to step into our brilliance. ✨

🎉 I'm very proud that I've increased my content and copywriting business exponentially this year. 🎉

I'm additionally proud because it's not exactly been a calkwalk this past couple of unusual years, has it?

⬇ A swift and brutal decline from hero to zero when the pandemic struck, reduced to a business in name only...

🤬 A lack of government support in the small business community, with the added kick in the teeth of watching the cash flashed liberally to the deserving, the unnecessary and the plain criminal...

🏔 A slow buy steady climb back, working as hard as I ever have in my entire life to rebuild a very broken little business...

So, to celebrate my achievement, I'm going to -

🛀 Take a long bubble bath
🛏 Sleep late tomorrow
🏩 Take a couple of weekend breaks this month to kick back and recharge the batteries
👩‍🎓 Press on to the end of a HubSpot content marketing qualification I'm doing, to up my game even further

Now it's your turn. What's one thing we can celebrate together, no matter how big or small?
🍕🏓🚻 Pizza, Prosecco Pong and disco loos, 🍕🏓🚻 Pizza, Prosecco Pong and disco loos, networkers of Manchester? That's what Alison Hibbert's Manchester Market Place, on the first Tuesday lunchtime monthly, served up at @pongandpuck this week.

This fun venue is a Great Northern newcomer. It's a perfect option for mate groups or corporate do's looking for an activity and something a bit different than bog standard boozing and buffeting, (though there's plenty of that up for grabs, too).

Manchester Market Place is a permanent fixture on my networking calendar. It's a friendly and welcoming group of folks across all business shapes, sizes and sectors.

I especially enjoy how it rotates arounds different venues every month, including new places that it's great to get a heads-up on. 👀

I'd highly recommend connecting with Alison to get on her mailing list if you network around Manchester but you've not been to this group yet.

Next stop Carnival on Tuesday 7th June. Who's going?
🌟 May the fourth be with you - it's Star Wars D 🌟 May the fourth be with you - it's Star Wars Day, the perfect time to pay homage. He's a small green creature with big, pointed ears. But, he sure knows how to rock a heartening business-boosting one-liner.

So, if you're feeling unmotivated and in need of Jedi calibre inspo -

💫 "You must unlearn what you have learned." - Shake up your workaday methods. It can re-ignite your passion and innovation.

💫 "Named must be your fear before banish it you can." - Acknowledge any issues head-on. You'll disarm them in doing so.

💫 "That is why you fail." - Believe in yourself and your ability to do whatever you set your mind to. You won't convince yourself - or other people - if you lack self-confidence and faith.

Is the force with you today?
🍔 They were mouth-watering, but like a heart at 🍔 They were mouth-watering, but like a heart attack on a plate! And I had to try and polish off two a day sometimes.

It would be churlish of me not to mark National Hamburger Month with a nod to a past client who plied me with copious amounts of halloumi burgers. 🧀

🔨 I did an intensive batch of sales and marketing work with them in 2019. They had almost 60 restaurants across the country then. Like many high street restaurant brands, the hammer fell hard and swiftly when the pandemic struck. They've been left with 23 post-pandemic.

I wasn't involved in the day to day. They'd brought me on board to work specifically with travel trade for group meal bookings. 🚌

I'd sometimes spend a day going from site to site and engaging with their various stakeholders. This meant lunch and dinner in their restaurants.

😳 It was just before they'd introduced plant-based alternatives to their menu. So, the only option for me was the delicious but deadly halloumi burger. And let's just say you CAN have too much of a good thing.

I loved working with this client and achieving great success on their behalf. And I'd love to work with more restaurants or restaurant groups again moving forwards.

Let me know your favourite burger in the comments. 👇
